5meter Humber sib
Ok here we go so a while ago in bought 2 humber sibs off ebay one was in good condition the other had a huge hole so only good for spar parts for the good one. The trouble i had was the main board for the floor was a sheet of 8x4 marine ply. But it don't have a van to fit it in so I had to come up with a solution so it could fit it in my car. I had three options
1 buy a van
2 buy a trailer but it have nowhere to store it
3 cut the board so it would fit in the car
I'm went for the third option. I cut the board into 4 equal pieces of 2 foot. But as this solved one problem it obviously caused more problems. it weakened the board and when it was put in the sib the boards were not level. So it had to think of a way to join the boards when in the sib but came apart easily to go in the boot of the car. I bought some alluminium H section 3 @ 1 meter to join the 4 boards together and 2 @ 2 meters to run down the edges. But when the alluminium came they did not quite fit so it had to router the backs of the boards so the alluminium fits snug. I have painted the boards with grey primer/undercoat filled any holes or defects with 2 part filler and painted it black is just need to prime and paint the parts that I have cut with the router and file the ends of the alluminium so there are no sharp edges and the floor should be done. I have loads more i plan to do but involves gluing so need to wait for a decent weekend for that

Yes please Martin that would be great I'll be doing more on the seats soon too. I didn't do any of the work in the house it's just the only place I have that's big enough to put the floor together.
My missus would kill me too if I got the router out in the living room

This thread just reminded me of when the girlfriend was away just before christmas.
It was nice and warm indoors for some pre-season maintenance.....

Needless to say, it had all magically gone upon her return!

Haha I told my missus I was going to take all the furniture out of the living room. So I could fit the boat in. I'll leave it to your imagination to guess what she said to me

Re: 5meter Humber sib
Yesterday was the first nice day we have had this year. so I took the opportunity while it was there. I decided to finish work early and go home to get some of the glueing done.
I managed to glue the patches for the seats and the oar locks. But had a bit of a problem with one of the oar locks. Because they are very stiff and flat and the tube are obviously round there was one corner that refused to stick no matter how much I tried to hold it in place. So I'll have to take another look at it.
So not much more to do now just cut the seats to length and paint them
Then sort out the frame for my seat at the back but the plates that bolt it to the floor will need cutting off and re welding because they are at an angle and they need to be flat to fit the floor properly
As soon as that is done I'm good to go and ready for ullswater at easter
