Frib 360 with Suzuki 20 Hp- under performing ?

Folding Ribs or F-Ribs are a great way of obtaining a hard hull boat but having the flexibility of a sib.
F-Ribs have the 3 or 4 section articulating hinge joint that allow the boat to fold up for ease of storage & transportation. A great idea opening up a whole new world of opportunity.

Frib 360 with Suzuki 20 Hp- under performing ?

Post by Dave M » 23 May 2018, 05:04

Hi all,

I have recently purchased a Frib 360 with Suzuki 20Hp .

I have been running the engine in at half throtle as revommended and on Sunday I finally had the chance to try full throttle .

I must admit I was a little disapointed with the performance .
I was one up with the Frib wheels down in the water and standard prop and standard transom fitting.

I measured the average speed using strava and achieved around 16mph.

I also get quite a wake close to the transom and almost a verical jet .

Any suggestions or observations greatly appreciated ?

Regards Dave

Hi Dave,
If I’ve read that correctly, that’s more than likely your problem. :scratch
The launch wheels need lifting out of the water :thumbsup

Also check that the outboard is fully down, not in shallow drive, and it's in the correct trim position.

I forgot the wheels were down on my Aerotec once and thought engine was broken... huge drag seriously slows you down. Surprised you are getting that speed

Hi Dave M and :welcome to the forum :thumbsup
You're not the first to try and plane your FRIB360 with the launch wheels down ;-) ... I could mention names but :no
Easy mistake we've all done at sometime or other ..... just goes to show how efficient the FRIB's hull is to get that speed :o
Tuck the wheels where they should be and all is well ......... it'll go very well in my experience ;-)
Enjoy :drive
:cheers

Thanks all for your help and suggestions .

In terms of correct trim position . I have moved pin to 2nd position from the transom , does that sound about right ?

Cheers

The second pin out is usually the best point to start from and then experiment from there.
