Punctured my F-RIB :(

Folding Ribs or F-Ribs are a great way of obtaining a hard hull boat but having the flexibility of a sib.
F-Ribs have the 3 or 4 section articulating hinge joint that allow the boat to fold up for ease of storage & transportation. A great idea opening up a whole new world of opportunity.

Thanks for all the help guys. It took a couple of days to sort out and then the forum was down over the weekend for the website update, but I have a conclusion now.

I ended up booking this in with one of the outfits Steve Bruce from F-RIB HQ recommended, RIB Shop in Southampton. From the photos of the tear, RIB Shop recommended fitting an airtight internal patch followed by a shaped cosmetic external patch. They are also fitting a matching cosmetic patch on the other side of the boat for conformity.

The cost is £270. I'm paying the first £100, Craft Insure are covering the remainder. The way I saw it is the cost to me is about £50 more than buying a patch kit, but it comes with the peace of mind of RIB Shop's 12 month warranty and the assurance of a professional job keeping the value of the boat high should I come to sell it at some point in the future.

The downside is the earliest RIB Shop could fit the repair in was w.c. 18th June. Just missed a cracking weekend for boating weather and two more weekends to go before I get the F-RIB back .

Good to know Craft Insure will cough up for the repair, I've just renewed my insurance with them this morning. Let us know if they bump up your premium.

Excellent craftInsure feedback.. 👏
I think the repair and matching patch on the opposite side would be my route too should that occur, job well done I say.

My premium renewal actually came through last week after they approved my claim. Up £13 vs last year, but the excess has gone down to £50, so I'm fine with that :thumbsup.

Yes, I was pretty impressed with Craft Insure Martin. I took the policy out as 'worst case scenario' insurance i.e. if I ended up losing the boat at sea or writing it off. I didn't even think of the policy covering minor damage at first, until I rang them up.

I will now no doubt be a Craft Insure customer for many years to come :thumbsup.

Thats great news Phil, I wasn’t sure about going with craft insure but that’s made me feel much better in case anything does happen, the last thing anyone wants is hassle with the ins company.

Phil

Appologies for not replying to this thread sooner, I thought I had but not so :shame
Yup, barnicles are deadly and as you've found out sadly they're razor sharp when their shells are open :!:
Despite your woes you've found yourself in good hands IMO ;-)
Ribshop have a good reputation and my dealings with them over the years have proved well deserved :D
Craftinsure also have a good reputation and are backed by Zurich Insurance which also have a proven record of dealing swiftly with justified claims :D
Your craft will be as good as new I'm sure in time for the even better weather :thumbsup
:cheers

Insurance is a must in my opinion.
It’s not so much the repair/replacement of your own craft..
It’s to stop you loosing your house when you mount someone else and your prop takes their head off !!!

I know, exaggerated scenario but it could/does happen.
