Kill switch - stop

Post by Alex4bes » 25 Feb 2023, 18:27

Hi all,

Brand new to the water, so please forgive my stupidity and don’t mistake it for ignorance.

I just picked up a honwave t-30 ae with a Honda 2.3 outboard.

The 2.3 is spares and repairs and think I would’ve spent a small fortune trying to fix it.

I also managed to pick up a Evinrude 9.9 today really cheap. Well maintained and looks great. The stop button has been moved and out on a metal bracket by the previous owner. I’m wondering if this switch or the socket beneath it will require a kill switch lanyard. Any help/advice appreciated.

Unfortunately the previous owner was not around to ask (deceased), and the friend I bought it from has no idea about them. The price I paid was worth the risk imo. Eager to get it going next weekend.

That is just a plain old manual stop button ( press and hold to stop) from the age before kill cords.

If you wish to use a kill cord just get a new kill switch with cord ( any brand would do ) remove the old button and frame it for posterity then fit the new one in its place.

Don't think the other thing below is related to the stop switch even though in the same bracket.

I could be wrong of course. Trace the wires back to their origin for a better idea / confirmation.

Regards Clive

Yeh, I think CRF999 has it nailed, looks like an old type engine stop button, sometimes found on the end of the tiller.
My old Suzuki had one, i disconnected it and used the wires for a newly fitted kill switch

Thanks for the replies gents…

I think it may be an extension socket for remote controls.

Will be fitting a kill switch I think, visions of falling off and watching my new pride and joy motoring off into the sunset itself more than warrants the £20 outlay.

Cheers!
