Leaving outboard on

Post by wba 1879 » 11 May 2021, 04:57

Hi all,
I will be keeping my sib at my local yacht club compound for the summer. Is it OK to leave the outboard on with the sib at around half pressure. It's a 3.5m Sunsport Talamax and a 9.9 Mercury 4 stroke. Just wondering if it would damage anything. The sib will be covered, transom wheels left down and the OB locked to the transom. Thanks for any replies.

Yes, should be ok if your happy about the security. Tubes at half pressure will be ideal to safeguard against solar/temp fluctuations and plenty firm enough to support static load of motor.

Years ago my parents had a honwave t40 and kept inflated under pressure on a launch trolley with the heavy Honda engine on with no issues... until the outboard was stolen.

Use as many locks as you can to secure the engine to the ground as well as boat.

Thank you for the replies, just as a precaution I'll put a block of wood under the OB just to support a bit of the weight. I have bought a Fulton lock, the compound is secure and has cctv but if someone wants it I expect like anything else they will take it.

Yes, the best thing you can do is make sure it is harder to steal than the one next to it!

Now if every one does that it would be interesting
