Has anyone tried out any of the pioner range?

Post by mattswan2512 » 31 Dec 2019, 09:57

Hi all,

Im looking at alternatives to sibs and a few years bk cane across the pioner range of boats.

I have found a pioner 14 for sale at present and thought it looked good.
Any info on handling etc if anyone has been lucky enough to try would be great they seem like sea worthy boats.

Thanks in advance folks :IANW

I looked at them (along with other plastic boats) a few years ago, but at 220kg, for the 14ft, they where too heavy for me. My mate's just got a Quintrex aluminium boat about the same size, which is a bit lighter.

Personal opinion -
With all boats I think it depends what you want your boating to be - where, what sort of waters, how many people etc.
There are many good 'plastic' boats on the market and pioneer are a well known brand often used by sailability groups due to one of the model having a 'drop down' door on the front. Although a different model a bit of information for their groups is available here https://www.rya.org.uk/programmes/rya-s ... multi.aspx

Pioner have a reasonable reputation, 'plastic' boats are perhaps not as comfortable a ride at speed but depends on seating maybe? We have a rigiflex and find it very stable and capable but not the most comfortable if 'speeding' about!
Please feel free to ask questions about training & RYA qualifications, if you're not local we will try to point you in the right direction!
