Honwave 3.8 and BF20D FIRST OUTING

Post by JK1969 » 30 Jun 2018, 11:50

Got the OB back yesterday following a service and thanks to advice from MCL I've just returned from a great morning with my son. Everything fitted in my Golf with the back seats down :thumbsup
We managed to get the boat inflated, OB on the back and everything stowed away in 20 minutes. We were on the river heading East by 7-30 am - I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of loads of onlookers first time out.
As MCL said there's a 7mph speed limited for the first mile or so. Then the river opened up out of town and I gradually opened her up. The OB is running really sweet after its service by Adrian of AC Outboards in Deeping (would recommend him for sure).
Boat handled really easily and I was surprised by its tight turning ability. So agile. Might have exceeded 7mph inadvertently :busted
A few oarsmen on their row boats didn't appreciate my wash
Anyway, made it back to the slipway without any disasters and all packed away in 10 minutes.
What a great way to start a Saturday :clappy

Awesome! Glad you had a great time.
Is your Honwave the airfloor version?

Yes it's the air floor. Whenever I've seen guys with the alu floor versions they've always struggled moving them around. Easy with this for me and my 11 year old son.

Cool. I really want to replace my 3.1 Zodiac with something a bit bigger and the Honwave is really tempting but I really fancy the F-Rib. Can’t afford it at the moment tho.
It’s safe to say that you like your Honwave?

Couldn't be happier. Wanted one for the last 3 years since I did my level 2 course. The amount of times I'll be using it each year a SIB is perfect.

Excellent, a
Maiden voyage under your belt without problems or incident... Well done

I agree, the T32ie & T38ie are bloody brilliant sibs. A huge difference between the two craft in ride quality but both very good boats. The T38ie would be my choice again if i couldn't have my f-rib.
Though i do like the T35 & T40 the floor set up just seems a drag to me, and from what i've seen, although they do ok on choppy/swelly seas, they do seem to lag behind the high pressure V floor of the T32/T38ie

Martin :cheers

Is the difference between the 3.2 and the 3.8 really that pronounced?

Yes,
I tried explaining to many when i bought my T38 just how much different it is to the t32.
Even Paul B who owned t32 was a little dubious until i sat my T38 on his T32 trailer, then added his T32ie on top of my T38ie.
The difference spoke for itself just in view.
Add that difference out on the water and the handling and ride, it's a completely different boat in my opinion, i'm sure Paul B will second that.

Hmm... I might have to buy one. I would love an F-rib but the honwave is just soooo much less expensive. Also, I don’t think I could get the F-rib and the outboard in the back of my Yaris!

Massive difference between the T32ie and T38ie once it starts to get choppy. Last time out I was taking a real battering in the T32ie trying to keep up with PaulB in his T38ie in Loch Etive with wind over tide.
