Max Horses ?

Post by Andy » 20 Sep 2018, 15:34

Hi
Take say a 5 metre rib, jockey and 2 seat wide seat next to OB, manufacturer says recommend 50 to 70 HP, Max 80 HP, and the guy has fitted a 100HP to it.

So apart from adding more power, you have also added more weight to the back.

Benefits ?
Downsides ?

Hmm, I think I’d walk away from something overpowered by that much.

Bad points:
It will be difficult to insure.
It will likely be unbalanced and stern heavy (assuming the 100hp weighs more than an 80hp, I’d guess a 100 is around 40kg heavier).
Eventually the transom will break.
It will be hard to resell.

Good points:
it will be quick until the transom falls off.

What worries me is that if the person was dumb enough to fit 100hp to it against the manufactures recommendation, then what else have they done (or not done, such as basic servicing?)
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

This might be a better buy Solarsurfer. No connection with it but it looks nice and tidy.

It seems I got the max wrong, it is 90HP not 80, so if you have setup the engine trim properly, I would imagine it wouldn't be as aggressive as some of you guys think !
