Thought I'd ask the option of the learned on here......
Bought this outfit at the tail end of last year, work etc has prevented me from using her, but am just about getting round to it having tidied up the pipes/cables etc. Clean looking boat which is rated for a 25HP short shaft, the previous owner couldn't pass up the deal he got on a 30HP long shaft (which is a great motor) and has modified the transom to suit the engine, correct height etc. He has used the boat with no issues other than having to add approx 15-20kg of ballast in the bow locker.....what do you think?

If ..as you say..Max is 25HP ...I guess the biggest problem will be if you want insurance. You would be wise to say its over powered .. as if you don’t..the insurance company have a good reason not to pay out if you need them.
Apart from that..I don’t think it will cause much problem. ..although the extra weigh of the engine.. if it is over the max designed weigh for the transom could damage it..and the extra leverage of the long leg on the extension piece could also damage it..but that would depend on how hard you push it and in the conditions you go out in ?
Personally..I don’t think it would bother me much as I don’t bother with insurance..but if I did..I would declare it and see what they say.
All this is only my opinion ..other may have different opinions..especially if they know that brand of boat..as I don’t. A 3.4m Rib with a 30hp..might be a bit hard to handle if a beginner..but in the other hand could be a lot of fun in experience hands..assuming it tracks ok.

pretty much my thoughts, we'll see when I get her out hopefully next week, the weight is not that much more than a 25hp so time will tell !

I'd echo Gurnard on his thoughts as the modifications seem to have been executed well and until you use of the set-up it will reveal any issues .....it'll perform fairly well for sure
Make sure you keep a 'handle on it' whilst winding up the throttle/speed if it starts to go chine walking ......things could get messy, very quickly

Let us know how you get on

i had a 40 on the transom of an avon rated to 30. im not bothered about an extra few ponies on the back. these hulls would have been tested with alot more than what is on the makers plate. the mod looks solid enough though obviously not ideal. be reet.
