Re: Mercury Ocean Runner 420
It's snowed virtually non stop oop here for the last couple of days, but there's hardly any on the ground. It's going past our window horizontally because of the wind.

Maybe... but think it will be hellish for a while.Paul wrote: BTW haven’t heard much from you latelyI assume you’re busy throwing yourself into the new job
but let’s hope it’ll work better for you and free up time for sib/ribbing
Bigger problem is still working on the new house, and still loads to do before I can move in!!

I was in Bulgaria for the last lot, staying in an 8th floor hotel room... snow was rising, not falling, literally going straight upwardsStray wrote:It's snowed virtually non stop oop here for the last couple of days, but there's hardly any on the ground. Yeah you're right not posted much about the rib, guilty as charged.Paul wrote:Harrison
Thanks for the comments and encouragement mate![]()
I think it's gonna be a labour of love to keep that colour scheme looking 'bright'but hey ho that's the only colour they do
![]()
Not sure it's going to 'fly' as I've been told to expect around 26knts on a good calm day but we'll see..... anyhow I think my racing days are over with my ailments

BTW, you've not posted much about your own transition from tiller sibs to a 5M ribhow's it panning out and any tips to pass over
First season has been fun, and although only done around 100hrs, we're still getting as many 'smiles per miles' we did with the sibs, which was considerable. Miss the sibs but the rib suits our location enabling us to get out more often, go that bit further in a bit more comfort, and great for playing in the bay towing toys/wakeboarding.
Speed wise we top out around 33 knots at 6000rpm although propped for towing so would imagine you'll easily achieve/better the 26 knots quoted.
Can't think of any clever tips as it's really just like a big sib on a trailer. If, like our Mariner, you only have tach and trim gauges we added an hour meter under the hood to keep track of run time. We also add Quicksilver Quickare fuel stabilizer to every tankful for peace of mind
Quite a few small ribs joining the ranks here now. Enjoy you're new toy, looks great.

Re: Mercury Ocean Runner 420
Mrs Limecc and I purchased an Ocean Runner 420 in September 2018 with 30hp Mercury. I read the earlier posts several times it's unclear if that Mariner is 30 or 40hp. Mine will do 26 knots by GPS loaded with two adults, gear and two dogs on the sea, I had over 27 knots on the river Tamar. It handles really well having a centre jockey seat, I was wondering if the bench seating puts the weight further back although I reckon you would trim it out to compensate. It's certainly a more practical layout and it looks great.
Having upgraded from a 20hp/3.8m SIB it's better in every way and it's great having the instruments.
Here's some pictures of ours:

Re: Mercury Ocean Runner 420
Hi Limecc,
Welcome to the forum and nice looking rig you have there. We’re also Midlands based but boat up in the frozen north.
Sounds like it’s well set up if you’re getting 37 knots with the 30hp motor.
You’re right about a bench seat layout putting weight further back and the jockey configuration usually results in a more neutral balanced/better handling boat. Not pleasant or safe piloting a stern heavy boat in big seas.
Good to see another ‘little’ rib join in the fray on the forum. Enjoy.
PS: It’s a Mariner 40 on Paul’s 420

Re: Mercury Ocean Runner 420
Ha! Just spotted the typo.
Think I meant 27 knots - which is still good.
You’d need to be running on nitro to hit 37

Re: Mercury Ocean Runner 420
27 kts is a good top speed. I find cruising at 20 to 25 kts enables me to cover large distances amazingly quickly, and still be able to take in the scenery.
