Quick question. Got an ins quote for my t40 it's asking for name of the boat. Do I need to name /register the Boat somewhere? Thank you.

No you don't need to register it for insurance purposes , only need to register if your getting a mmsi number I believe

You'll need to register it with some local councils dependant on where you're going at any time. North Wales is notorious for registration, some of the lakes in Cumbria etc ..

You can register your craft with the coastguard , it's a CG66 registration.

If registering a fixed vhf radio they will log/give you an mmsi number that is specifically for your boat. Your callsign/boatname will then be registered.

If you do the CG66 registration, you'll have the opportunity to register a/your club/group name - some guys have used our forum name for that.

I have a name for mine so I used it, I shouldn't imagine it'll be compulsory.

Are you with craftinsure ?

Just insured Tiny Tigga (Honwave T32IE) with Alan & Thomas Marine Insurance, a bargain at £67 for the year including all UK inland and coastal waters, and Europe for up to 30 days at a time.

For insurance purposes I simply used the manufactures description in the boats name section ;-)
So my boat name was FRIB360 ....... yours could be HonwaveT40
:cheers

Just pick a name you like for your boat, it does not have to be registered with anyone, unless you have a fixed VHF then the boat name gets registered on your ships radio licence with OFCOM. If you have a handheld VHF no boat name gets registered on the OFCOM transportable licence. Your boat name will be used when calling up others on the VHF, or issuing a mayday call, so bear that in mind when choosing the name.
