Insured & Registered

I wanted to register my SIB so I'd be covered for fishing trips in Wales, so went to Conwy.gov, what a frustrating web site that is to find the link for registering. Not sure if I was just having a brain dead day, but it was a doddle to register with Anglesey.gov [ Link Below ]

Printed off the form [ Link below ] filled it in, photographed it and emailed it to a very help helpful lady called Christine, who called back to put me through to accounts for payment, £15.00.

However, to do the above I needed insurance, so using the two links on the forum, I first called Allan and Thomas. They were quite thorough with their questions, covering everything from any boating qualifications, where's the SIB kept, and do you have an outboard motor lock, in case you decide to go for a brew and leave the boat/OB unattended, very much like insuring your car... One comment the very nice chap I spoke to made was, he said F-Ribs & Sib's was a very good forum full of knowledgeable people.
Next I called Craftinsure, very different phone call altogether. It was quite simple, what's the boat and O/B, how much did it cost. They set an on line account up, emailed the password with quote, leaving me only to log in and accept.
Best price by quite a bit was, Craftinsure. £50.51, fully comp. That gives me insurance up to £2000.00, so the boat, OB, fishfinder and tackle are all covered, five million public, £50.00 excess and you get a no claims discount on renewal...I was quoted around £84.00 from Allan & Thomas, best price they offered was £70.00, but insurance only covered the £1000.00 I paid for my SIB and O/B.
So now it's just a case of the Post Man delivering the license from Anglesey...Something I picked up on the discount offered for seasonal launching which costs £160.00, but a £55.00 discount is offered if you have any boating qualifications. Pretty sure the chap at Allan & Thomas said the insurance would also be cheaper with a qualification like the RYA Powerboat level 2... Seems as though if you are launching from Wales, having the RYA level 2 would soon pay for it's self, besides the knowledge gained...
