ah thanks blootac, apologies for the incorrect info. even slower thenblootac wrote: Yes there is a 4 MPH (not knott) limit on almost all canals (See the Canal and River Trust Page)
If you're making a wake then it's even slower.
I believe on the Ouse around York it's actually 6 MPH.

Re: Rivers and Canal.. Permits etc ?
Yeah, people are quite verbal about the no wake speed too!
It's quite common to hear people in moored up canal boats shouting "SLOW DOWN!"
It's a shame that given the huge canal network around Manchester I can't find anywhere to launch from the wants to charge me less than £30. Lymm Marina wanted £50 for the privilege of a self launch!
I could probably throw the Avon 3.1 over the side of the canal but I'd struggle with the 3.8 alone. I could get away with the little 2 stroke 2HP too which at full speed reaches 6 knotts.
hmm... sounds like a possible plan...

Four years on, well... Close as makes no difference. Does this help anyone?

I'm based in Kent, and top of my wish list for my next outing is Yalding to Maidstone on the Medway. Perhaps I'll try Tonbridge to Yalding after that, see how the first trip pans out and take it from there really...
I used the link above to find launch sites near me.

That’s a really great site and one that quite a few of us use.
Welcome to the forum, by the way. Head over to the Introduce Yourself section of Down The Pub and give us a bit of info about yourself.

Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.
