This looked like a good place for info getting a new boat.
MANY years ago the family lived in Cornwall and had a Tinker Traveler (only sailed it a few times mainly used for beach hopping and mackerel fishing) that left the country when my folks emigrated, now I want something to play with on the water near London and that can be thorn in the car to visit the coast.

We’re very fortunate to have a great crew aboard the forum with masses of knowledge and experience across the board.
There is no right craft, but your quest to find the right craft has just got a whole load easier and I’m pretty sure all your questions will be answered.
Have a good read through the topics and hopefully you’ll get a feel of the type of craft that suits your needs, transport and storage requirements and most of all, your pocket … that’s the best type !

Saw your other post with more details of your needs, can't help with advice on that as my boat is only big enough for me and one or possibly two more, certainly not enough for 4 adults and two kids or snorkelling gear.
Hopefully someone with info on a more suitable set up will be along with appropriate advice soon.

Quick Questions for better advice
1. How many people are you planning to take out?
2, What activities are you looking forward to such as fishing, leisurely cruises, pulling kids in a tube or something else?
3. What type of water are you looking at?
4. Are you planning to launch at a launch ramp or sandy beach?
5. Will you need to transport the by motor vehicle and will you trailer it or take it in the back of the vehicle?
6. Question 1, 2 and 3 will set the direction for the size of motor but due you have a preference or existing motor you wish to use.
7. Will you launch alone or with a friend? If alone then weight is a factor impacting size as you have to pull it out of the car and move it to the water.
I have an F-rib 375 with a 20HP Mercury EFI Motor and love it. As I take it out on Lake Huron, a Great Lake with the possibility of large waves the fiberglass bottom gives me a sense of security. The boat will travel at 40 km per hour with 4 or 5 people on board. That's enough to make a very exciting ride or pull a grand child around the bay on a tube. I have added a Bimini top for shade and a bow cover for splash. It is stored on the beach so launching is not a problem. In general I recommend the largest boat and motor combination you can launch. As a more senior boater with reduced strength and inconsistent access to helpers I have been exploring the various methods for move the boat and motor back off the beach when occasionally needed. I have an acceptable system at this time but always looking for better Get a good electric air pump to speed up assembly. I use a battery powered one for convenience. A good set of transom wheels is also a great help.
