Looking for a SIB to beach launch from West Mersea

Post by dannyjumpjive » 10 May 2021, 11:11

Hi all,

I am new to SIBs and RIBs. I am looking at purchasing an SIB to beach launch from my holiday caravan at West Mersea.

I have had a powerboat license for over 25 years and owned a Bayliner for 15 years but for last 10 years not had a boat.

I have been into kayaking and stand up paddle boarding for the last 6 years and enjoy SUPing off West Mersea and across to Brightlingsea.

I am initially looking at a Honwave T38 but open to suggestions. I want it to be light enough to solo launch from beach. I simply want to hop across to Brightlingsea or Bradwell for days out or up the Blackwater Creek to Tollesbury (where I used to moor my boat). I want the boat to be safe and stable for young family to come too. Or to tow the paddle boards to explore other creeks.

The beach at Mersea is plagued with Oyster shells that are extremely sharp. (allbeit I have never had a puncture on inflatable SUP) I think the mud is my worst enemy when launching. I would be carefully launching mid to high tide from beach or would tow around to the hard slipway. I would like good beach launching wheels so I can hop in and hop out of coves etc.

Any help and advice on boards and outboards would be very appreciated.

Danny
