Hi From the Isle of Bute

Post by Sassenachronism » 28 Jun 2021, 19:53

Hi folks,
I'm on the Isle of Bute and I've bought a YAM 275S.

An olde 2HP Johnson outboard arrives tomorrow.
I know nothing about boats save for some sailing experience as a teen.

I've already rowed the little grey balloon a few miles around the coastline on a lovely summers day.
Checking in here to learn a bit more about what I can do and where I can go in a small boat :)

Hi @Sassenachronism and :welcome to the forum!

You are based in a awesome area - the west coast of Scotland can be small boating nirvana; wonderful vistas and the right to roam and wild camp!

2hp is not much, power wise, but it certainly beats rowing!

Interesting name, by the way. An out of place Englishman?
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Hi Chris, thanks for saying hi -
yup - I'm from the south, I don't drive and have never lived close enough to the water to make boating practical.
That's all a bit easier up here.

The motor has arrived and is sitting in my shed on a sawhorse.
Next - time for me to get the skills and safety gear to start puttering about :)

Welcome to the site.
Isle of Bute is one of my favourite places. I've been going there since I was a child. Hopefully be over in a few days.
A 2hp will move you about but be cautious as you will struggle if wind and tide are against you or the weather changes.
I'm not sure how long you've stayed on Bute but if you want to ask anything, feel free
