Always a bit of an odd thing to do - but I'd suggest go out SIB hunting around local slips to you … and then walk over and strike up a conversation with the owner ( considering timing as if they are managing a boat 2 kids and a partner timing is critical !) .

But .. seriously most people are happy to chat about their kit ( for most its their pride & joy) and give you feedback about set up , weight etc etc. You get to see things in real life action and get real life feedback.

Engine wise - 6hp may be fine for rivers , but stick with the main brands ( Mercury , Yamaha , Suzuki , Tohatsu ) and you will be better off. 4 stokes are nice and smooth, near silent and sip fuel compared to the 2strokes - but they are lighter , cheaper ( as used) but can have their own nuances :( .

A good system for as little lifting as possible is worth getting worked out at home in the garden before you set off on a first trip.

The Southampton Boat show is only a few weeks away and there will be sibs there - and they are always open to a deal at the show - if its possible see if you can get along for the day maybe ? Another good chance to poke & prod actual things :)

I think a slow response as we are all desperate for it to be summer - so out boating ( even if that's in the garden or garage ? )

I agree with the above, having trailled a 15' hard-boat to Cornwall from Scotland, and been faced with £25 a time for launch-recover, decided that I needed to swap for a SIB. Plenty Honwaves / Excels / Zodiacs on the park where we were staying and gave me a good insight into stuff I hadn't thought about. All being well the hardboat will get collected tonoight, and order will be going in for a SIB tomorrow.

Does £1500 sound like a good deal for a t35&15hp 4t?

Graham,

Noticed this set up the other day:

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre ... 3316933147

Downside it does have a Chinese copy (Yamaha) motor. Upside the Force does have the benefit of a 5 year warranty and Excel are dealers so good chance all purchased as a package.

Pretty fair price if all as described, and may even be open to a sensible offer.

Well the one I have seen is the Honwave T35 (think its the aluminium floor model) and a 2006 (I think) Mercury 15HP 4 stroke. Including Bow bag, seat bag and full cover. The engine looks absolutely immaculate and has been well looked after from what I gather.

I am trying my best to stay away from the chinese copy engines from advice I have had from owners and from this forum haha.

If 1500 sounds like a good price for the T35 and it is big enough for my family I may go and have a look. Providing you guys give the go ahead for the price that is!!

The southampton boat show really is too far for me to travel to be honest. I am assuming it is on a weekend too and I work dedicated weekends. Makes it difficult to go to these things.

For those who commented a YEAR AGO! I have now got my first sib...

Got myself a Costco Tobin Sports Mirovia Pro, come very well reviewed for a new boat to the market. The tobin sports is the new SIB that Costco sell, the Hydro force was the old one, it has a inflatable keel and floor.

Paired it with a 2020 new Tohatsu 6HP 4T with ext tank.

More than happy with it, plains with me and both kids (2&4), not quite on the plain with the mrs aswell but suspect it will with just me and her. (or very close, may change the prop yet if it feels close). Usually just me and the son anyway and nips along at somewhere close to 14 knotts just me and him!

Happy chappy
