New member saying hi!

Post by Andy_BHG » 06 Aug 2019, 21:18

Hi everyone,

I've heard lots of good things about this forum so thought I'd join and introduce myself.

I've been boating most of my life, grew up with small speed boats including Fletchers which we had great fun with around Poole harbour. I then did 6 years in the Navy so had lots of experience with Pacific RIB's. Since left the forces and joined a marine company in Lymington where we sell all kinds of boats from small tenders to large motor boats.

I've recently sold my Ribcraft 4.8 as wanted to free up some cash, I'd like to explore some new waters so tempted to get a small SIB that I can pack in the car and explore rivers and lakes with.

Look forward to getting to know everyone and learning lots!

Andy.

Thanks for the welcome. Haha my expertise is engines really, I have little experience with the smaller, more portable boats so keen to see other members setups.

:welcome
Perfect spot for SIBs, so many places to explore - shame about the 4.8 (we love ours) but SIBs do seem a better option for explorng more places and so easy around this coastline. Lots of meetups seem to be happening around the Solent area. Its a friendly forum so I'm sure there will soon be an exchange of info between your engine knowledge and members technical details on their boat setups.
Please feel free to ask questions about training & RYA qualifications, if you're not local we will try to point you in the right direction!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, my Dad has a Zodiac with a Yamaha 2s 15hp so I think I'll borrow that and see how I get on. I like the idea of an electric outboard but they're still expensive when compared to an ICE. Does anyone use their RIB on lakes to go camping with? I see the photo on the home page looks quite wild, that's the sort of thing I'd like to try.

Hopefully @Brerabit will be along shortly - I think he is quite keen on that sort of trip
