Lure fishing help

Post by Compo1804 » 29 May 2022, 18:17

Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice please.
Been a keen sea fisherman most of my life, multipliers, beachcasters, boat rods, done them all.
Now fancy doing a bit of lure fishing from my new T 38.
Wanting some advice on what to buy. Been looking around at Abu Cardinal combo etc, but as I have never fished lures before, not sure what size fixed spool to get. I know lures etc come in grammes, but only been used to like 4-6 oz lead to reach bottom from previous boats Ive owned/ fished.
Don't want a large rod, is 7 or 8 ft adequate.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Mal

Most of us use a 6ft boat road, there are some cheap deals on Amazon and eBay,
I think mines a 20lb 6ft Shakespeare.

Just use a broom handle, you'll have just as much fun and they're cheaper.

When you say "lure fishing" is it fishing with Shad type lures for bottom feeders such as cod, or cast and retrieve lures for Bass, Pollock etc?

Hi Stray,
Yes good point, Ive always done boat fishing in the post with weights to get down to the bottom, or jigging with feathers and caught pollock, mackerel, codling etc.
Thought this time to get some small lures to the bottom 30-60g, on a light rod for a bit of fun. Probably wont even keep the fish, just catch and release.
Have no idea what to use as lures either tbh.
Cheers
Mal
