Lack of fishing

Post by ArcusFlyer » 13 Dec 2018, 16:43

Had a nice pike on the F-RIB 360 out of Winderemere a couple of weeks back. I've historically found the fishing very hard on Windermere so was very happy not to blank.

Other than that, a severe lack of fishing.

Any one know of any cod appearing off the Yorks or Lancs coasts?

Got a few days off over Xmas so might try to get out off the Lancs coast somewhere - never taken the boats off there. Might even venture up to the Northeast at some point if there's a good weather window although that's a bit of a trek for me.

Tight lines.

Not sure of your water temperature up there, but around Essex its still around 10 degrees, so its starting to come down a bit. I have heard reports of people starting to catch Codling, so it should be about right now for the colder fish, like Dabs, Whiting, Codling, etc. Last year it was warmer in December than it was in May. May sea temp was still 4 degrees, which kept most of the fish away from the East coasts. A load of us are off on the 27th to bash some sea fish, weather permitting, and we are prepared for the cod !

Plenty of cod off the North Yorkshire coast, the uptiders out of Whitby are hauling them in, less than a mile off shore. Trouble is, it's too windy or to much swell for small vessels like ours. For the ood days that I could launch I don't bother, it's to much trouble getting the F-Rib out of hibernation. Shore fishing can be quite good when the sea comes away, but you have to pick the right spots.

Thanks Stray for the update. My frib's on a trailer in the garage and I try to get out all year round when the fishing and weather gods allow. The forecast for my xmas time off has been horrendous so far, surprise. But if theres a window ill try to get out. Thanks, Matt.

Today was doable up here, not that I went out, several yakkers drifting the hard ground half a mile off though. Next Monday/Tuesday look possible at the moment.
