That's awesome Chris. Assume where the freshwater from the rivers flows into the top of the harbour so freezes before it gets salty.

Yes, I assume that’s what’s happening. The last few days being so still and cold have prevented waves from breaking it all up. We encountered a load more ice around pottery pier on Brownsea as well - coming out from the shore far enough that we had to stay outside of the channel for a while.

Cool. I noticed that there was ice on the Thames in the lock cut for Boulter's Lock as I drove past yesterday. That's a first for me.
The water in a lock cut is much more static than the main river, especially when there's no traffic and it was only iced maybe up to a couple of feet from the bank. Interesting since while it's been consistently cold, it's not been as cold as it can get sometimes.
