Honwave T38 Transom height and motors

Post by Bigplumbs » 18 May 2019, 08:53

Following on from a recent thread. Those of us who have a T38 were going to post transom heights etc. So I will go first.

Mercury 2 stroke 15 hp Height top of cav plate above prop to top of transom is 17 inches. See pics below.

As you can see my Cav plate is below the bottom of the boat

I don't get the issue with this Merc 15 but am on the verge of buying a 2016 Tohatsu 4 stroke and am worrying a bit now that I may be buying myself problems

What is also confusing is that when I look up the specs of my 15 hp 2 stroke on line it says it is a 15 Inch shaft length see link below

http://www.theboatbusiness.com.au/mercu ... twostroke/

But when measured it is deffo 17 Inches

That is interesting on the Suzi. I suspect if the tape was not at an angle it would be about 17 inches

I just measured my 15 hp Mariner 4 stroke on another small rib and the height top of transom to top of cav plate is 17 inches again

Who I really want to hear from is a Tohatsu 20hp 4 stroke owner

When you look on line at the specs for both the Suzi and Honda 20 4 Strokes they all say the shaft length is 15 Inches. I bet if actually measured it will be 17 inches

All Rather Confusing

T38/Mariner20 efi;

Transom 412-420mm 16.25-16.5” (vertically)

Motor leg 412mm 16.25” Transom bracket to AV plate (vertically on trim pos. 2)

This is the current efi Mariner so should also apply to the latest Merc and Tohatsu derivatives.

Harrison

Do you get any of the Cavitation issues mentioned in a previous thread....

My Merc 15 2 stroke is in trim position 1 by the way

Yep, in fact it’s me that raised the weird ventilating issues.

I’m of the opinion the new Mariner is just too short in the leg to suit the T38.

You can overcome the problem to some extent by trimming further in than the optimal position. Position 2 usually fixes it.
