Hey all just wondering how any of you are powering your fishfinders. and yes i know a battery for all you clever types lol. very limited on space so the smaller the better. also which are the best CHEAP or should i say entry level fishfinders out there and one you dont need a degree to work

A 12v 7ah battery is usually sufficient to power a fishfinder. I put mine in a pastic container.

As to what fishfinder, if you give a price range, you'll get more suggestions.

Rich

I've the same sort of setup as Stray but my battery and fish finder are housed in a bag I clip onto the seat http://www.f-ribsandsibs.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=108
The sealed battery is a 7AH from Toolstation http://www.toolstation.com/search?searc ... 45%2060989
As Stray says a budget figure would be helpful but an important item you must factor in is the transducer as not all equipment and prices quoted include a transducer :!:
Force 4 Chandlery have been doing some great deals lately.......as an example this fish finder/plotter was double the price 12 months ago and includes a transducer http://www.force4.co.uk/department/elec ... 2HAAaI1q_s .....watch the video to give you an idea of what you want from your setup

Hi, I was tempted by the deal on the Lowrance until I saw the footnote:

"The transducer supplied in the box does not have HDI capability but the unit will support HDI if an HDI transducer is added (sold separately) see product code 210281"

The cost for the HDI transducer is a further £99.95 !

Not sure I totally understand the consequences of HDI - non- HDI, I really need to spend some time reading up on these gadgets.

Unless anyone can help me with an idiot's guide . . .

:cheers
cheers

I believe the difference is the 2D/3D down scan Roger...
I think the cheaper transducer gives a lot more detail of the sea bed...
Paul will hopefully advise if that's correct as i asked him similar the other day.

I was very nearly tempted myself, but i think the iPad option is a little clearer and certainly a larger screen. I'm going to stick with what i have.
