flying SIB

Post by António » 21 Jul 2019, 07:30

hello guys, long time no see... ;)

well, have came to a situation funny at least, I have a flying SIB, yes...

have an 380 ocean bay (china boat) with a 15hp 4st suzuki, and four of us usually came on board.

the thing is that at wot I'm almost lose control of the SIB beacause it take of the water plane.

perfect balanced, third hole trimm, 1/4 of throttle and we already are on plane, and the thing his that we came literaly of water.

to control it have to reduce to 3/4, on flat water, or on choped water, like today.

any help in solution this...

Hi Antonio,
Many of us on here will purposely go wave jumping and I assume that’s what you are doing....?

SIBs are so light in weight, a good turn of speed and the right wave angle will launch your sub out of the water, it’s fun - it if it’s something you don’t want, you’ll just have to keep the rpm/speed down a bit.

Out of curiosity, when you say it jumps with four occupants, what weight would you estimate that to be ?

Martin :cheers

Hi folks, i have got the opposite problem i cant get my Honvave on the plane,i have seen loads of vids on youtube of the same boat and same engine and they seem to plane no problem, i know this sounds a bit drastic but i am thinking about cutting 2 inches of the transum any thoughts would be welcome.

What happens when you try and plane. Does the engine rev up and you don’t go anywhere?

That sounds like the classic problem we see with the T38. You need to trim the engine in to the first hole (the trim pin need to be as close to the transom as you can get). Also ensure that your floor is fully inflated.

I like the videos, it looks really nice where you are (20s in on the first video, anyway)
You seem to have got a pretty good setup there. :D
