See - our admin team is already fulfilling the requirements of the new bill, and it’s only had its first reading in parliament.

Re: Censorship
The original question about sensorship in the UK has been answered and, in short, it will not be a problem for this forum.
How about we agree that political views and ill conceived policies (from all sides) have little bearing on our ability to enjoy small boats and just leave it at that?

Re: Censorship
The reason a post was removed has nothing to do with the bill etc, It was removed as part of the content was in breach of our forum rules.
I understand the thread, I understand the reason why the article (that has been removed) was posted in the first place. Unfortunately, we can't allow that sort of content on the forum even if it is a quote from elsewhere.
To quote a section from the forum rules…
Swearing and abusive language is not tolerated, there is a swear filter in place with only the real harsh swear words filtered, as a mark of trust we will leave the setting as it is, In hope that nobody abuses this.
We do not claim to be child friendly or a 'family forum', but please be mindful of others when posting. Just because you are not offended yourself doesn't mean someone else won't be.
No illegal or possibly illegal comments, for example, racist, libellous or threatening remarks.
Here’s a link to the full rules page for anyone that requires to see them in full. The rules link is quite clearly displayed on the forum index page and should be read by every member.
By all means, discuss away, BUT PLEASE - think before posting guys!!
It's quite amusing though, the fact we've had to censor a censorship topic.
Martin.

Reason: added rules links and a quote.

Re: Censorship
Much like others Facebook is now only for boating things.....and very occasional friend pics. A forum does allow a more conversational environment. While I don’t like the nanny state I do wonder how some forums get away with the almost bullying of members for having a different view.... and that’s just if boating, let alone any other hot topic of the day.
I’d add I really enjoy the way this forum has given me back a real enjoyment of small boats... and have never read a bad post.. credit to the members and mods alike

Re: Censorship
I'd like to have seen that post, from what I've read from 9-R in the past, he always has an interesting point of view, I don't agree with censorship of any kind, or censors who think they have the right to suppress free speechThe Hobbit wrote: ↑21 Sep 2018, 20:03Sorry 9-R but I've had to take your last post off for obvious reasons!!

Re: Censorship
I'm not saying that this is what happened in this case, the following is purely observation.
Freedom of speech is often misunderstood; it doesn't mean that you can say anything you want. Most countries have restrictions and exclusions, some more than others. According to Amnesty International:
Of course in a small specific interest group such as ours keeping things relevant is also an issue; and with that I will shut up!
Freedom of speech is often misunderstood; it doesn't mean that you can say anything you want. Most countries have restrictions and exclusions, some more than others. According to Amnesty International:
In relation to a forum such as this, there are agreed forum rules which can be used to restrict freedom of speech under certain circumstances, such as promoting illegal activities or inciting hatred. By using the provided facilities you agree to these rules and restrictions.Governments have an obligation to prohibit hate speech and incitement. And restrictions can also be justified if they protect specific public interest or the rights and reputations of others.
Any restrictions on freedom of speech and freedom of expression must be set out in laws that must in turn be clear and concise so everyone can understand them.
People imposing the restrictions (whether they are governments, employers or anyone else) must be able to demonstrate the need for them, and they must be proportionate.
All of this has to be backed up by safeguards to stop the abuse of these restrictions and incorporate a proper appeals process.
Of course in a small specific interest group such as ours keeping things relevant is also an issue; and with that I will shut up!

Indeed, 9-R is a very valued member..Cliff wrote: ↑23 Sep 2018, 00:49I'd like to have seen that post, from what I've read from 9-R in the past, he always has an interesting point of view, I don't agree with censorship of any kind, or censors who think they have the right to suppress free speechThe Hobbit wrote: ↑21 Sep 2018, 20:03Sorry 9-R but I've had to take your last post off for obvious reasons!!![]()
I understand your frustration Cliff, Unfortunately as I’ve mentioned previously - the post that has been removed had to be removed as it didn't follow "our guidelines/rules for the forum.
We have very little in the way of rules, but the rules we do have are there for a reason.
By using the forum, you agree to the rules... Therefore, anything that doesn't fit in with the rules will be deleted.
. I've spoken to 9-R regarding the post, i've explained why "Hobbit" did what he rightly did...
. 9-R correctly advised the forum section name and description requires editing, That will be done!
. As far as i'm aware, everything is now "hunky dory" ??
Hopefully that clarifies the query?
Again... The topic is valid, interesting and i see no reason to stop it
