But until yesterday, I was quite happy to talk about my SIB. I was in Hull, down by the Marina talking to two lads who where fishing. They weren't making a mess, and where good naturedly answering questions about the lack of fish. I'd told them where I fish and that I had a SIB, which they where interested in, at that moment 2 black RIBs came steaming up the river. Like those I said, but nowhere near as big or blingy. At that moment the RIBs altered course and came straight at us and then proceed to do high speed circles right in front of us, jumping over their wakes. Then they just shot off up river. How they didn't manage to snag a line is a mystery. It was then that I added Sibbing to my list of things to avoid talking about in polite company.
People who give me a bad name.

People who give me a bad name.
I'm a keen angler and over the years I've had to defend the sport when in polite company, because of the not quite so few who leave a mess. So now I don't admit to being an angler. I have a campervan, which I don't talk about (in polite company) because of those who spoil it by parking up in public places and spending a fortnight there with their awnings and deckchairs out.

Re: People who give me a bad name.
Well, Stray, we share at least three hobbies and I know exactly what you mean.
Luckily, my wee Compass SIB & 4HP 2-st isn't going to upset anyone by speeding or causing a large wake!
I have only ever wild camped in our motorhome for one night, not by choice but couldn't find a site - didn't sleep a wink.
Happy to pay £10-£25 a night for a CS/CL or full campsite for security and peace of mind.
And the only angling 'litter' I leave is inadvertent, when I lose my tackle on rocky bottoms
Bad elements seem to exist in every activity.
I used to be a member of a metal detecting club and we were soundly abused by some passing cyclists on a nearby bridleway once; they presumably must have thought we didn't have the landowner's permission to be there. Those despicable individuals who give that hobby a bad name by illegally searching without permission go by the unfortunately cool title of "nighthawks"

Well it makes you feel any better, I'm a dirty stinking road-hogging sweaty arse truck driver (Chemical Tanker)

There's good and bad in all, I just take it with a pinch of salt now (before I smack then in their teeth )
Oh, an to top it all, I have a caravan and a 4x4 too .....
Stick that where the sun don't shine do-gooders

Re: People who give me a bad name.
Nowt wrong with being a tanker driver Martin, I probably made the stuff you transport ( I used to be a process monkey on Wilton site). It wasn't a rant about what people own, but how a significant minority abuse their ownership to the detriment of others.
Rodger I fully understand about not feeling comfortable when wild camping, we've moved on several times because it didn't feel right. It's a pity we don't adopt the Aires system like in France, because I can't justify campsite prices ( that's when I can find a space on one in the area I want to be) when all I want is a parking space.

Re: People who give me a bad name.
Sibs are far from the poor mans rib.
Personally I would find a rib totally impractical for me and my family. I have a folding rib/sib so I can use it with my caravan.. To follow on, Caravan/Camping... it's called fun
I can fold my rib and put it in the caravan or better still put it in my 4x4 pick up which is a great all round vehicle. It gives the luxury car feel, more room than an estate car, tows my caravan or trailer.
Not just a Chelsea tractor, in work mode it carries anything from gearboxes/engines/water & tyres for my haulage business.
I'm just browsing drones at this moment in time to help promote our glorious forum, increasing the quality level of forum video footage will hopefully increase the level of members.
That's just my 2pence, your popularity has probably just hit rock bottom

Re: People who give me a bad name.
Martin & Andy B ( mainly Andy B ),
I was only yanking your chain
I have always taken all people at face value, the world is full of strange people & normal people...... everyone starts on a level playing field.
Quite a few people find me strange because I fly aircraft...... quite a few people find me strange because I can't navigate a boat on water, yet I have flown all over the world and always found the narrow strip called a runway
I once ventured out with some friends from Dover Marina to go to Calais & ended up in Boulogne ( we were doing it in the Dark & it was very misty pre GPS days )
