Re: October 2016 Photo Competition
I spent a good part of this year’s boating season staying in a caravan on the Solway Firth ..which is the closest I have come to living beside the sea...
Took this photo yesterday from the living room window .. and it fits the chosen topic well. It was to be the last day of my boating season but I decided to stay indoors instead.
Im home now..landlocked in the city ..to hibernate for the winter.
My boats are now sleeping too ..But I still dream of the sea .. and hear the sound of the waves hitting the shore..outside my bedroom window...roll on 2017..
..... as I must get down to the seas again .. to the vagrant gipsy life. ...............
Still..it will give me some time to catch up on last summer sea stories

So that's where you've been hiding Donny
I'm away next week in my tin tent visiting the Hastings area ......... our 2 week trip to Cornwall was wet/cold, my trip to the Wild West Adventure was also wet/cold ....... so I'd expect to have another wet/cold trip away with photos to follow

The good Gurnard really does not do cold! I was in swimming while he took that photo from the comfort of indoors! I'll show you cold....The Gurnard wrote:I spent a good part of this year’s boating season staying in a caravan on the Solway Firth ..which is the closest I have come to living beside the sea...![]()

This was the 19th of January 2015 in Loch Leven. When we set off that morning the air temperature was minus 7C.
You can just see the ice forming on the surface of the salt water.
We paddled until we could go no further, the head of the loch was frozen.
It even formed on our paddle shafts as we were paddling. That day we invented a new temperature scale: degrees K.... i.e. degrees Kinlochleven!
Oh and just in case you think that trip was a one off...
...here is another, we enjoyed it so much we even carried on...
...and didn't land till after dark.

Re: October 2016 Photo Competition
I'm back and pleased to report our trip away was very mild and warm for the time of year
Stunningly beautiful photographs there Douglas
of somewhere I've/we've visited
still breathtaking environment in whatever weather IMO
As you say rightly, Donny doesn't do 'cold' as he's told me "as the water turns dark/black in colour, I'm off to the hills" but IF I'm not daft or something
it must be fooking as cold up on them mountains or am I missing something
