After running out of petrol in my Sib 400 yards from land I thot what the hell leave the Jerry can be and row ashore.
I was rather unsettled when my old man and I couldn't make headway toward shore as the receding tide combined with off shore wind pushed us further out to sea.
I decided to set about making an auxiliary engine mount it looks as follows.........
It works as follows.......
Not pretty but better than a set of paddles

I like that idea. Also allows you to use transom wheels as well. How does it swing out over the tube into the water? Does it have a slider?
Wrote a note said, 'back in a minute'. Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

Re: Unorthodox approach to auxiliary engine on Sib
Hi 9-R.
The outboard engine goes on a piece of box section when it's deployed.
This engine mount has a narrower sleeve which slots in to the bracket which is attached to the transom.
If it's calm I'll put the aux on the outrigger and tilt the main engine up and use the aux for trolling.
If im out on a sight seeing the jolly the aux engine is mounted over the transom.
I use a wooden block to hold the aux engine in the up position - this removes any stress on being put on the tilt mechanism.
A ratchet strap stops the aux bouncing up and down when on the move in a chop.
As I said it ain't pretty but it does what it's supposed to
