Hayling Island and Poole Harbour

Post by sladonians » 01 Apr 2020, 11:46

No, not both on the same day. Just thinking ahead to when things return to some semblance of normal life and we can get back out on the water again.

1) Has anyone done a circumnavigation of Hayling? Is it a good idea? Where can we launch from?
I would do the portsmouth one but the radar arch on the back wouldnt fit under the bridges :shame

2) Poole Harbour, I wonder if some form of celebratory bash combined with camping and a BBQ in the summer around Poole / Wareham for when we are able to get back out again? Plenty to keep occupied with down there for a couple of days of fun.

Anything that anyone can think of that stands out as a 'must do' for either of these suggestions?

Cheers all, and keep safe and sane...........

Ha Ha! Steady on mate.

Might well be a great post but unless you have a crystal ball, what ya gonna plan.

We’ve got a garage full of boats, a holiday home we can’t access, currently furloughed, private pension in free fall, the summer is looking well an truly fooked, and to cap it all might not be even here by winter!!

WTF

I suppose I’m just getting cabin fever, especially looking at the coastal forecast for the Solent / Christchurch area. Smooth as a baby’s ass and light winds.

I know. Best boating weather of the year is on the horizon and we are all locked in our houses hiding from the plague and praying that we will see our elderly and vulnerable friends again.

This sucks. I want to be out in my boat. I wonder if I could claim using the boat is essential for my mental health?

I suspect this ( above) may have put people off replying a little ? Please don't take it to heart BUT THE USE OF CAPTIALS IS LIKE SHOUTING AT SOMEONE …

Only to be trumped by BOLD CAPITALS IS LIKE SHOUTING IN THEIR FACE …..

Anyhow - Poole is my back yard for boating and we did a trip a while back lots to see and really interesting slow criuse ( and the weather was good enough to get out to Swanage for chips :)

Hayling needs a little thought - ( having done it & round Portsmouth twice I think now ? ) - The tides & bar rough water mean its not for the feint hearted or under powered heading out into the Solent - its a real pick your day on the day & go ( while knowing the tides are doing to avoid tough re-entry or exit from either harbour entrance) .

I good time now to get up to speed with tidal planning foe secondary ports , nav by contour based on said tidal calcs , tidal diamonds ( at slower speed and less HP SIB can be more susceptible to the currents ) but having done all that they are great trips .

A particular favourite of mine is the Dunkirk Memorial channel .!!!!.... seen a lot but not often navigated & the name isn't known well !

thanks @PeterM ,for the reply . i certainly wont take your comments to heart but i will beg to disagree .although i do see where your coming from, the use of capitals was limited to the name of the campsite only, which in written english is good form. that said the use of capitals in this instance was as an attention grabber , because i believe that anyone who goes and stays there will thank me for the tip. enough of that then and just to say the rest of your post was excellent and very informative.the areas you talk about would be too much for me to tackle on my own as im well aware of my limited capabilities and sea going knowledge, im aware of how quickly the solent can turn nasty. thanks again and hope to meet up soon :thumbsup
