Warsash to IOW 21st June

Post by ChrisParish » 20 Jun 2019, 19:46

Hi Folks,

As the testing of the Excel has been postponed until a suitable engine has been located I thought I would start a new thread for the resulting outing.
Not sure where we are going at the moment, but possibly Yarmouth / The needles.

So far:
Times:
  • 9:30 - Meet at Warsash Slipway
  • 10:00 (ish) - Depart
  • 10:00 until ??:?? - Shenanigans
  • ??:?? - Go home
The following people are attending at the moment:
@ChrisParish
@harrison
@sonny1

If anyone else wants to come and join us then please do - The more the merrier.

@Shaun you mentioned on a different thread that you might be able to join us. Any news?

Hi All,

A huge thanks to @harrison, @Mitch and @sonny1 for a great day out on the Solent today.

We met at Warsash slip at 9:30 ish and we’re underway around 10.

We decided to go to Yarmouth and then on to The Needles. The outbound journey was pretty smooth except for a section just as we exited Southampton Water and entered the Solent which was pretty choppy.
Arrived without incident at Yarmouth where we were greeted by the harbour master who directed us to the visitor pontoon. £7 for a short stay - not too bad.

Lunch was had in a pub and then we headed back out.
We tried to get round to The Needles but the sea state was changing and becoming very choppy and unpleasant so we turned around and headed for home.

All in all a good day was had by all.
We converted 32 nautical miles (almost 40 statute miles) and I used about 10 litres of fuel.

Those look like nice new pretty boats! So do you guys just sit on the pontoon and use the bench for accessories?

Good lunch at Yarmouth in good company and as a bonus an interesting section of your famous ‘Solent chop’ on the return leg. :D

I love a hat overboard drill. On one PB2 course we saw a hat blow off the upper deck of a large motor yacht at anchor. I got the students to do a HOB (Hat OverBoard exercise) to retrieve it for the owner. The hat owner was so pleased they gave us a bottle of bubbly.

Right, so that’s one bottle of bubbly coming my way then terry, :thumbsup
Great morning, nice ride out to Yarmouth, good pub lunch, then went downhill a bit, Chris out in front heading for the needles, getting a bit rough, me next thinking there’s something to be said for boating lakes, Harrison & terry behind, in fact stopped & I thought terry was having problems with boat in the chop which was the case, to be honest I think we were all having a few problems because these boats are tiny things really. Started back & it was getting worse, what didn’t help was that somehow my engine had come loose on the transom & luckily I noticed it before it went swimming.
We all made it back safely & when we tied up in warsash a fella asked if we been fishing & as he was in what looked like a 2.7 sib, we told him it might be best if he didn’t go out but he had his fishing rods so off he went, we were being thrown around all over the place so god knows how he got on.
Not a particularly pleasant afternoon but met some new people, got some experience out in the chop ( seemed equivalent to about a force 16) so day was certainly not a waste of time & we did see a penguin.
Took 3 1/2 hours to get home due to road works, roads closed & accidents.
