bournmouth air festival
bournmouth air festival
Having purchased a lovely used 3.6M F-Rib from Paul on here. Done a couple of outings on the great river ouse in Bedford which was lovely - time to go further afield.
Wondered if anyone has been to this event on a SIB and has any advice? We are down in Lymington for a few days end of August using bedsonboard.com and using the F-Rib as a tender, thought we might pop across and launch in Poole on the Friday 31st Aug if a calm day and head out to see the festival. Never done this on such a small boat....
Cheers Graeme

Re: bournmouth air festival
Hi Graeme. I've done it in a 4m lots!
No great problem but be aware lots of boats can mean lots of wakes... especially through the harbour entrance.
Once out you'll need to anchor or be super nice and someone may let you tie up to the back of their big boat.... try other ribbers!
There can be big gaps in the flying so pick what you want to see and be there for that. The red arrows are awesome as you can move around during their display to literally be under them as they run and out of the display centre line.
There is a no boat zone between piers extending to sea some few hundred meters... which is strictly enforced.
Launching can get very busy for clear reasons at the start and end of day... and not everyone knows what they are or should be doing out there.... so be ready to make allowance for others!!!

I’m going to head out that way with the boat on Friday. I’ll put in at baiter and go round from there.
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

They are always very cagey about the timings as they want you to buy a program!

Indeed.. friends in ATC and the coastguard help out... they want/ need to know for planning and safety. I think the red arrows also publish times..and the transits they do are notamed ;).ChrisParish wrote: ↑20 Aug 2018, 21:51They are always very cagey about the timings as they want you to buy a program!
If I can get it I'll post it...
Re: bournmouth air festival
A timetable of events would be great - If weather looks calm I think we will now put in at the public slip at Mudeford. Never used it before so will see how it goes. Don't really want to buy an anchor just for this so will take the advice and be super nice to other boaters and see if we can tie on to someone. Am sure we will find someone who will take pity on a tiny little inflatable
Fingers crossed on weather, only going to head out if calm and good point on the wakes from other boats. If not looking great we will just stay inside the mudeford sandbank which is a lovely spot. Was tempted to buy a beach hut there until we realised they are £200K!

Re: bournmouth air festival
Try this. Pick your aircraft.
Mudeford is an awesome place. For another time but you can rent beach huts or an apartment in the black house(better facilities!) If you fancied a week or weekend there.
Keen to see the run of jets on Friday... breitling team should be good!

Re: bournmouth air festival
Great info - weather looks pretty good for Friday so will give it a go. Can always mess about in the harbour if it gets too rough. Made it from Lymington to bucklers hard and back yesterday without freaking the 7 year old too much. Absolutely chuffed to be able to just drop the wheels out the back and pull it up the shore.
Seems to go faster if you remember to pull them back up

Re: bournmouth air festival
I’m going to be out there on Friday from about 7:30 (I have something to do before the air show) so maybe I will see you out there.
I’ll be the guy in the Honwave with the Fribs and SIBs tshirt on!
