That forecast shows a possible F4 gusting F5, wind over tide, for the return leg across The Solent. Not my idea of fun in a Sib.

I think the Newport run is unwise but it might be a nice day for a blast up Southampton water and an explore of the Hamble river.

As I have a 5.5 hour round trip in the car I'm going to bail out of this trip, but those more local may want to still go out. Make sure you take loads of pictures and have fun.

I'll reschedule the Newport trip for another date.

Or, as suggested by Mitch you could do Poole harbour and Wareham river instead.

I don’t have enough experience over open water so I’ll bow to people who knows better. If it’s cancelled I think I’ll get a load of worms & go to Poole Harbour for the flounder before they clear off to spawn. Force 3 to 4 inside the harbour sounds ok to me.

I’d have no worries sibbing in very sheltered water (either Southampton water or Poole harbour), but a crossing to the Isle of Wight and back in small boats with a high risk of it getting windy (forecast is gusting F7 both the day before and day after) is just too risky for me. I don’t relish the thought of getting stranded on the IOW with no way of safely getting back to the mainland.

If I lived nearby I’d be definitely going out in either Southampton Water or Poole harbour, on the basis of if it gets a bit lively I’ll turn back and head for home. But I don’t fancy 5.5 hours in the car when I might only get an hour on the water if it is too rough for sibs.

I’m actually working on Monday on the water and it’s forecast a F5 gusting F7, so I’ve asked for a boat with a wheelhouse (a rather nice Beneteau Barracuda) so we can hide from the wind and spray. It even has windscreen wipers :)

If you do go out on Southampton water an explore of Powerstation Creek (I think AndyB suggested that) might be fun. I haven’t been up there for about 5 years, and that was in the dark so I didn’t see it properly.

It would take all of 5 minutes to go into the Power station dock and back out again, not really what i'd call a day out! ;-)
If it helps, it's bitterly cold down here. last night was really windy, lots of trees down all over.
The sea state is confused at best depending on tide/wind if you guys do decide to go out it will be cold and wet!

At the moment it's still showing rain for most of the day.
Wave heights of just under a meter at 7 seconds (That's long enough to disappear from view)
Chop direction swinging from W to NE through the day

Not really conditions for the inexperienced, and the experienced should know better! ;-)

Sorry for me being late on parade chaps but I've been bogged down with 'life' or lack of 'life' more to the point :thud

Mitch
If the regular solent boaters are bailing out I'd say it's too changeable to chance it TBH ;-) and looking at various forecasts it's :Confused so those travelling distances shouldn't take the chance IMO
Your thoughts to go fishing within Poole harbour certainly is your best bet from what I can see

Thanks for that Paul, I like that site it gives a lot of information, going by that 4knts with gusts up to 9 seems ok & the air temp is pretty fair so I’ll be ordering the worm tomorrow & I can check out the bow dodger & chart plotter/fish finder at the same time + I want to get a couple of more hours on the engine before it goes in for a service. Will try to get a few pics of all them flounder. Thinking about it I might take the beach casters with me just in case.
