Re: Weekday or Weekend outings?
i have been to swanage from poole probably a half dozen times and on one occasion i had to turn back at old harry . i know very little about wind and tide but i do know an easterly wind is not very good for that location and i think slack water is the best option in any event , that could be completely wrong but im sure someone more knowledgeable will put me right. as for a first trip , i wouldnt say it was too arduous if there are some more experienced people on hand, stay quite close to shore where possible.

@@sonny1 yes I do believe there are some overfalls around old harrys, and best to pass at slackwater as you say. Looking at tide times, we would be passing somewhere between the double high on the way and way back so should be ok in that regard I think. Definitely best with wind from the north or west though!

Re: Weekday or Weekend outings?
@bbutty Jan 2019 was my first trip out (only as a passenger) and we went from Poole to Swanage and back. I think there was about 7 or so craft and in Swanage Bay we tied the ribs off to a spare mooring bouy near the shore and the sibs brought everyone ashore. There's a cafe close to the shoreline a small sandy "beach" for the sibs. This was on the Western side of the bay. Pete Matcham, Harrison, Chris Parish were all present and will probably remember it well.

Hi @sonny1
I'm back in the area and using the boat from Sunday so will be posting some pictures of the launch at the sort of tide height and parking availability. Still looking good for the 26th, providing the weather stays nice and calm.
Looking forward to it

Re: Weekday or Weekend outings?
Hi, I'm considering driving down on evening of 25th and sleeping in my van, if anyone here has local knowledge and can recommend a campsite nearby or a carpark that would be safe for an overnight stop that would be helpful. Many thanks.

@GerryM ,@sonny1 South Lytchett Manor BH166JB, is very nice. I've been twice with my caravan. Not the cheapest but top class facilities.

Re: Weekday or Weekend outings?
@GerryM @sonny1 Sorry, brain fog, I was thinking of Poole. For Christchurch try Holmsley campsite BH23 7EQ.
