ive said it on this forum at least 50 times ,,,,,REDCLIFFE FARM wareham,
I suspect this ( above) may have put people off replying a little ? Please don't take it to heart BUT THE USE OF CAPTIALS IS LIKE SHOUTING AT SOMEONE …

Only to be trumped by BOLD CAPITALS IS LIKE SHOUTING IN THEIR FACE …..

Anyhow - Poole is my back yard for boating and we did a trip a while back lots to see and really interesting slow criuse ( and the weather was good enough to get out to Swanage for chips :)

Hayling needs a little thought - ( having done it & round Portsmouth twice I think now ? ) - The tides & bar rough water mean its not for the feint hearted or under powered heading out into the Solent - its a real pick your day on the day & go ( while knowing the tides are doing to avoid tough re-entry or exit from either harbour entrance) .

I good time now to get up to speed with tidal planning foe secondary ports , nav by contour based on said tidal calcs , tidal diamonds ( at slower speed and less HP SIB can be more susceptible to the currents ) but having done all that they are great trips .

A particular favourite of mine is the Dunkirk Memorial channel .!!!!.... seen a lot but not often navigated & the name isn't known well !
I’m particularly interested in a weekend trip to Poole, and out to old Harry (and his wife) and Swanage if possible. Love the idea of a slow explore of the river Frome and Poole harbour. I think Redcliffe Farm sounds perfect and looking at YouTube it’s a fantastic river to cruise.

Solent, I grew up around the solent and learned to sail on it. You are quite correct about the tidal anomalies and strength of the currents. It’s my usual playground in my RIB, from Swanwick Marina on the Hamble. However Hayling is somewhere I’ve never been by boat hence my interest.

This weekend is perfect for a trip on the Solent, neap tides, good weather, light winds, shame we can’t leave the house :sos

Hoping if we all show restraint now this time of lockdown will pass ever sooner.

Be safe chaps :thumbsup

We'll definitely keep an eye on any Poole (or Christchurch) meet up - missing the water badly now and even the Dolphins are out in the bay.

Probably my main reason for wanting to Boat in the area. Chartered a 30ft Searay in Tenerife last year because I didn’t want to joint the tourist melee who seem to hunt and chase the dolphins.

So we gently cruised up the south west coast and before long we’re followed by at least a dozen dolphins who were ‘escaping’ from the flotilla of tourist glass bottomed boats chasing them. Such wonderful creatures. If that wasn’t enough we also saw a pod of pilot whales. Then as if that’s not enough on the way back we were treated to some acrobatics from a school of flying Fish, one or two even flying right ove the bows of the Boat. Hence the name of my new SIB.

Sorry, just got me thinking......

Wow sounds amazing out in Tenerife. I was very excited to see Danny the Dolphin in Poole Harbour last year just outside the marina entrance. We regularly see seals and lots of birds but don't ask me what type! A couple of years back I was doing a boat delivery to Torbay when we saw a whale - we were the only boat out there it was incredible. I love Poole Harbour, its our home ground but there is always somewhere to go, something to see. NExt on the list is to head out and see the Puffins which I understand are just down the coast. Lets hope it isn't too long before we can be afloat again.

I had lots of childhood holidays at Rockley Sands (as it was then) and spent many a happy day along the quay or in Poole Park looking over at the Sunseekers and Brownsea Island. Cant wait to get out on the water and spend a weekend beginning to explore the place from the water.

Keep safe and lets hope for an end to all this very soon.

This did make me chuckle. The lighthearted discussion about the use of "capitals" and was probably a great topic on its own!! But yep Redcliffe Farm is a good site with all the right access but the last time I was there they were not group friendly, however that would not stop us arriving separately and meeting on the water or in the evening. The tide times tend to force everyone to launch and recover at around the same time anyway from memory. @Martin and I have discussed a meeting here in the past but without any plans being made to date, and aren't likely to in the near future. If someone says that using a red pen is rude, I'm going to ignore it and say that it wasn't a pen, I typed it, without nail varnish!! (its not Friday yet)

hi @The Hobbit ,,,with regard to redcliffe farm not being group friendly you are right but i can see why as, having camped a lot, big groups can get out of hand and be disturbing for other users . you are also right in your "arrive separately " suggestion . i have been there quite often over the last seven or eight years and i love the whole area , also campsites with a slipway are few and far between so it ticks all the boxes for me. to meet a few other forum members would be terrific, there or anywhere else for that matter........ soon i hope. any other south coast camp sites with slip known to anyone?
