Hi all,
Out in the SIB again today and felt very comfortable and confident in nice calm conditions around St Mawes. Really starting to feel I can go further afield and be safe in our Excel Volante 330, the 6hp was more powerful than I was expecting two up, even against the tide (granted it’s neap today).
If I was to cross the bay to Falmouth from St Mawes, is there a visitors pontoon in Falmouth I can use? Googling is bringing up mixed reviews... but also suggesting it may be too busy a port to visit safely in a 3.5m sib without a Radio...
Thoughts and ideas welcome, just looking to stretch my legs a bit further, but while staying safe as I don’t have a radio just yet!
Trip to Falmouth?

Re: Trip to Falmouth?
I launched bombard 380 years ago at the main slip in Falmouth with no problems. Loads of parking near by.
Last year I launched my new Frib 360 at Mylor's free public slip, but you need to be early to get parked in the car park next to the slip. There's loads more parking in the boat yard further up the road (£5.50 per day I think). If you can drop the stuff off and then go park that would be ideal.

Time it right with the tide and you can get all the way to Truro.
Great day out.

Re: Trip to Falmouth?
I think the OP was more on about traveling there by boat from his launch point for a longer trip. And is there any where he can tie up when he arrives.foxyloxey wrote: ↑06 Jan 2021, 21:12I launched bombard 380 years ago at the main slip in Falmouth with no problems. Loads of parking near by.

Re: Trip to Falmouth?
Hi, you have a few options if you want to cross the mouth of the Carrick Roads from St Mawes to Falmouth town.
You can, as stated, head towards the launch slip near Events Square (look for the Maritime Museum tower) My advice there would be to bring you boat out of the water as mooring is primarily for people launching and recovering. If you have transom wheels you can always find a small spot under the guidance of the club.
Secondly, you can go round Pendennis point and potter down to Gyllyinvase beach or even Swanpool, nice coffee and ice cream on both beaches. Be careful though, you’ll cross into the yellow buoys to alert you of swimmers etc, kill your speed and enjoy the cruise into the beach.
You are right, it can get busy but there is an 8 knot speed limit and the harbour master is hot on it. On the whole everyone down here is respectful of each other whilst on the water.
Hope this has helped?
