Honwave airfloor transducer bracket

Post by ChrisParish » 19 Aug 2018, 21:53

Hi folks!

I’ve been thinking about how to mount my tranceducer on a Honwave T38 airfloor.

I hit the Man Cave and came up with this:

It slides over one of the launching wheel legs and tightens with the thumbscrew.
This is version 2, as I have already printed and tested one which worked except when on the plane the transducer became folded back due to the water pressure. This new version has interlocking teeth that prevent the transducer being pushed back by the water but are weak enough that in the event you hit the bottom the tranceducer will fold back.

It is designed for my hummingbird transducer but it would be easy to adapt it to take others - all I would need is a mechanical drawing of the tranceducer or the actual item to measure. In the case of my tranceducer the bracket is designed to hold it at the angle indicated in the instructions.

If there is demand for it then this item could be made available at a highly competitive price!
Not a complete idiot - some parts are missing.

Looks like just the job Chris for those with Honwave IE sibs :thumbsup
The flow of water over the bracket shouldn't cause too much disturbance either  unless going too fast
Good job mate you clever bugger :clappy

I went out on the Solent today to test my new transducer bracket and fishfinder / phone mount.

Dashboard
The bracket worked superbly. It is strong enough to stop the water from folding it flat and keeps the transducer low enough in the water that it was working reliably while I was planing along at 12knots.

The dashboard carries the fishfinder and my iPhone in a QuadLock case and the whole thing is attached to the seat via a Railblaza StarPort. The battery is in the yellow box underneath and you can just make out the edge of the voltmeter I have installed on the box. The battery is an 8Ah 4S2P Lipo (4 cells in series and two sets in parallel) and will run the fishfinder for several days or recharge an iPhone from flat half a dozen times.

The fishfinder certainly works. Using a combination of man-made fishfinder (Hummingbird Piranha) and natural fishfinder (flock of seagulls) I was able to bag half a dozen mackerel in as many minutes.

Plate’O’Fish
All in all it was a successful trip, but I managed to break the phone mount and nearly lost my phone overboard due to a combination of wake from a large rib and wind over tide causing me to be launched about 6’ in the air and the resulting impact breaking the printed part. Time to mould one from carbon fibre, I think!

Brilliant job Chris, if mine doesn’t work well I may well send you my transducer & see what you can do with it.

No problem. If you can give me the model number I will see if the manufacturer has any drawings of it I can use.

It certainly did work! And the results were very tasty, pan fried and served with brown bread and salad.
