Hi all. Will I have any problems running a charging cable off my 20hp to a small 12 volt battery. The battery is only a 17 amp/h r. Will the outboard charge rate damage the small battery,charge rate of 12amp at 3500 rpm according to the book. I don't need a massive battery I only use a fish finder and a white light when needed,just want to leave battery on boat avoid charging overnight and placing back in box and connecting up.

It will be fine.

Just keep an eye on the voltage to make sure the regulator is operating within limits.

Average is about 14.3v when running.

14.7v if battery is really flat!

ideal enzo200500, do you know the size of wire used . i need to extend mine by 4 foot,it looks close to 16 amp and does the extra bit i but in need to be marine grade?

If its not installed permanently, then multistrand Automotive is good enough!

Thanks,another job to do,i am starting to think i spend more time tinkering with the boat then actually being on the water with it. All good fun though.

I made a battery box took the info from youtube the green box easy instructions to follow i used 2x12volt 7amp wired in parallel . 2 x banana jacks for my transom lights white \ port starboard lights the fuse box allows me to put more in the box Has 2usb in one port \ one cigarette port which i use for my fish finder . , i have cut a light board down so it fits through the handles on the front near the bow its light so i have mounted my compass in the centre off the board and the fish finder on the right side , board can be removed for transport
