I weld galvanised quite often, you just have to be careful. I set up a heavy duty blower, not just for galvanised but other welding too. I make sure that the ventilation is good. then all the nasty gases get blown away...or not

Errrr no thanks. Want something a bit more permanent , going to get a length of 40mm box section and 50mm fasten the 40mm inside the original and slide some extra 50mm box over that , bolt in place then weld , much better job

Paul, on a light setup like yours and not a huge extension of the draw bar then Andy B's suggestion is an option
If worried about flex, security etc, then fit 3 and Loctite the threads

Yes I think Andy’s suggestion would work fine in principle, but I’d rather make it much more positive, plus after doing a quick measure up , it looks like the winch post will sit roughly where the hitch bolts on at present, so by clamping a extra section like Andy has suggested wouldn’t work very well ,

Waiting on this bloody weather to improve so I can inflate the sib and get some proper measurements

paul check the law relating to your project there was something that came out about changing specs on a plated trailer because its not gone through the build process, i would be inclined to build back with a roller support bracket which i think does not affect the spec of the trailer.
also galve poisoning is like flu i had it years ago not nice you are supposed to drink milk found that out after for info. i would buy some galve box and fix with u bolts to extend the back roller or like mine have a pad on a similar bracket to the jockey wheel extending far enough back

this is my trailer you can see the centre pad it's just one clamp job done for info
