Hi, I'm fairly new around here and I've found it to be a great place to hang out. I've spent hours trawling the archives and older posts and learned a lot. I was (still am) a complete noob when it came to SIBs but now feel confident to take mine out on the lake. We'll see if wifey enjoys it too.
Thanks for keeping things going.

Marcus

It may indeed have a friendlier tone. That is most likely because there are so few posts :D

Not wrong there Matey.
This forum needs a kick up the arse….
Only a few clicks away from jacking it all in tbh. Just doesn’t seem to be worth effort nowadays.
Shame really.

Yup I keep posting various things and videos etc but very few comments. Still People must do what they must do but sometimes feels a little pointless

Deep breath...here is my personal opinion. The other channel has sections that cover the same ground as here and with more daily views any post will get commented on quickly. If you post the same on both channels it seems a bit of overexposure to me, you may want to support the smaller forum but you want the exposure to the largest audience quickly to get answers etc.
I relate it somewhat akin to having a corner shop close to home, but a Tesco main store same distance away. Do you support the local corner shop by visiting only to find they don't have what you need or you have to wait a day or two while they get it in, or do you go straight to Tesco cause they are bigger and are bound to have the stuff you need. Without wanting to appear rude, it seems 2 forums are trying to cover the same ground and I'm not sure there is the need for more than one.

When you say the other site do you mean Ribnet or YBW Forum

Plenty on here subscribe to the other channel, myself included, and think there’s room for both. I’m also sometimes guilty of posting the same thread on both, usually limited to new boat or kit. I’ve also seen the same question asked simultaneously on both channels….not a problem with that either.

Historically on the other channel, the sib section has always played second fiddle to the rib boys. Often a bit intimidating to many new to boating, where it was easy to get shot down by the ‘don’t go out in anything less than 6m and 150hp’ brigade.

This is a great place for us small boat boys, where you’ll not get ‘flamed’ simply asking advice or showing your new toy, whether new to, or an old hand at this boating lark.

really sad , the tone in some of these recent posts. i maybe dont comment very often but i do read every post. usually while the wife is watching emmerdale or corrie . if the wheels are gonna fall off it will be a fair chunk of my evening down the pan . but, i do understand the frustrations of the "usual faces" @harrison @ChrisParish ,always there with sensible advice ,and of course @Bigplumbs whose videos i watch with envy , more than a few times . i have no control over who may or may not "bale out" but it will be very sad if it does go down the pan .

I am certainly guilty of not posting on here anywhere near as frequently as I have done in the past, although that may be partly related to the fact that, due to health issues and of course Covid, plus the fact that I am an unashamed fair weather sailor, I haven't actually had the SIB on the water for almost three years. I hope to correct that situation this year but at the moment I am in my campervan in France and the boat is in Fife!

I take my hat off to Martin for keeping this forum going despite setbacks and having a busy personal life and family to deal with and would hate for it to go. I learned a heck of a lot from folks on here when I first started out and I also then strove to give back as I gained more experience, as hopefully my posting history will evidence.

I will make an effort to check in more regularly in future and to ensure newbies get the greeting they deserve.

I'll also try to organise some informal meet-ups over the next couple of months if anyone is interested in joint trips out on the Firth of Forth.
