I was tempted to respond a couple of times but bit my tongue (or whatever the keyboard equivalent is!) on the basis that usually when someone's trolling they're seeking to stir things up further, so it's best to ignore them.
I think we should all bear in mind that Martin and the moderators give their services voluntarily; forums like this take a lot of time and money to run. There is no mandatory joining or membership subscription fee involved, I know some of us do donate from time to time but that only contributes partway towards the costs, not the time involved which takes forum administrators away from their families and other leisure activities.
As long as that is all appreciated and folk make positive contributions with thread content, I'm sure that is the reason why Martin and the others happily give their time as fellow enthusiasts in our great hobby. It's good when newbies come on seeking advice and folks welcome them and chip in with help, then further down the line the former newbies are then able to pass on the benefit of what they've learned - many of us have gone along that route.
However no-one needs the hassle that I have seen admin have to put up with now and again from rude, ungrateful and troublesome members and on at least one occasion I know Martin was close to throwing in the towel, which would mean we ALL lose out. It's also off-putting to potential new members to see such bickering and rudeness. There's nothing wrong with healthy debate and differing opinions, provided they are expressed in respectful and polite ways. Neither is there any issue with a bit of banter provided it's not taken too far.
Anyway, rant over, I'll now shut up and go back to my quiet corner.
