Hi cdlwingnut 😁
Many of the guys on here are UK based so we’re generally not too familiar with tour brands in the states.
A Facebook pal of mine has had great relations with Saturn and rates them very highly.
Hopefully some more of the members across the pond can chip in with their experiences.

I am selling my Newport Dana. I liked the boat, but it is too small for two people of 200 lbs. I am replacing it with the Newport Catalina, which is about 12 feet 6 inches.

My review of the Dana: Well built and fairly easy to set up (after the first time). I don't like the way the seats can slide out of the bracket. I also noticed that the self bailing system on this boat was not very good at letting water out, but it never let water in. Also of note: the 18 inch tubes on a 8 and a half foot boat means it can carry a LOT of weight (1000 lbs), about as much as my 19 foot Sea Hunt fiberglass hull coastal dual console conventional boat. My 10 horsepower Mercury 2 stroke struggled to get this boat up on plane, I had to get a lower pitch prop AND load everything in the front and move forward when underway. The boat would not plane off with two 200 lbs people on board. There was some spray over the front on rough water. Once the little boat got on plane it would go about 20 mph with just me inside. I had some trouble installing the floor the first time because the floor was sticking to the side, once I slowly pulled it apart the floor went right in. I haven't had it for long, so I can't judge how long it will last. And its on eBay right now for sale. Newport Vessels service has been good. When one of the side stringers plastic end cap came off, they replaced it immediately.

Bottom line: They seem well made, but too small for my comfort. Don't buy it on Amazon unless you absolutely have to. The direct service and support from Newport Vessels was outstanding, and the net total price was less, even though they charge shipping and Amazon does not. Newport Vessels phone support has been outstanding. A USA based person who actually knows everything about their boats actually answers. Not something I've ever said about Amazon.
