4m Avob Searider

Post by PeterM » 13 Aug 2015, 15:45

I'm really looking for a classic Avon with the back to back seats with 40 Hp on the back

I had one with a 40 Johnson on it and it was the most fun little boat I've ever owned .....

I'm currently beginning brain washing attempts on the mrs so we can get an SR4 too.
Do you not bash heads with the back to back seating?
I've been told by quite a few people that the SR4 isn't really made for more than 2 people. I'd be interested in your experience as an ex-owner!
I'd be looking for vast majority of the time just me, some of the time 2 people and rarely 3 or 4.

mine has a small 2 seat jockey console and its comfortable 2 fishing 3 at a push any more and it would be very crowded . tbh you could fit a single jockey seat behind mine but that would be it BUT they are a cracking little rib feel very secure when it gets a bit lumpy and if it hasn't had the flooding hull blocked off very stable fishing platform . good fun too like a sea going go cart :D

I've had 2 Sr4s now - both deluxe hulls ( a GRP moulded deck which includes the transom support in the deck moulding rather than the stainless support brackets) . One as per the pic the other a two seat jockey version.

Both had 40hp - both 2 stroke - the 4 seat a Johnson( evinrude) 2 cylinder with PTT and the jockey set up a 3 cylinder manual Yamaha.

Both would get to low 30knts .

I loved the side by side seats for the social aspect of being able to talk to your passenger, but it wasn't ever going to have the same rough water ability as a jockey set up - as my days of F9 boating are over I wasn't concerned at all by this . With 3 people on the back to back seats it was surprisingly spacy - although the weight slowed down the pick up.

Two man jockey seats are the ideal for a more usable boat for fishing etc and yes more than 2 and things get too crowded by far.

I'd add neither of these boats cost me more than £1300 as I got them :) . Small boats = huge cheap fun...

Every time I see that YouTube video of the two of us messing about at The Needles in your white 4 seater SR4 with the Johnson 40 I smile to myself. That boat just made you smile whilst helming it.
