Anyone able to answer any of these questions??
1. Is there a free version of the app that is usable for locating youself on a char that includes depth map?
2. Is the paid app worth it? How much does a subscription cost? (The website has UK maps for $39.99, but I'm not sure if this is an annual payment?)
3. Anyone with experience of using the app (especially in the UK) who could offer a one paragraph review of their experience?
4. Any advice on a waterproof case for a large phone? (Pixel 6 Pro).
*anyone on this forum familiar with Strangford Lough (Northern Ireland)?

Re: Navionics App
1,2,4 sorry don't know.
I use the free app on a tablet and the PC both for UK and Norway waters.
I use it for research as to where might be good to fish and any particular shallows or hazards that might be around in my planned area.
I DO NOT use it for accurate navigation, because there are NO Lat Long coordinates on the free one. However as i am always in view of shore they can be good for working out your rough location and which way you need to head for fish / home etc.
I have heard that laminated screen grabs can be useful.
Also if you want to get a pretty good idea of a location to transfer to a proper chart etc you can select the compass icon and then get bearing / distance from known points such as headlands, buoys, piers etc. use them in google earth and you can get pretty close to the position you want.
That is an armchair operation not something to try at sea, you need your head up watching what's around you.
For the UK I have a GPS chart plotter which helps greatly but in Norway, where it is nearly all deep and i am just dinghy fishing i use the research on Navionics to find the drop off's and the simple depth finder to confirm i am over it.
Hope that is of some use.
Regards Clive
