Is there a depth off the boat that transducers work at ?

I'm looking at getting a bracket made to attach the transducer to the rear of the boat so wondering if I will need fixed height or variable height?

I know these can be attached directly to the transom but I know i will forget its deployed and crash it onto the beach at some time.

Normally they are just below the transom.
If you are concerned about Damaging it and you are having a bracket made then design it in such a way that it will move in an impact. That is what I have done with mine.

I will get the measure out at the weekend and work out how long I need the upright to be then measured to be just below the transom, thanks Chris

Skimmer transducers only need to be in contact with the water, not under.,if you position the transducer so that it is below the bottom of the transom you will produce a Rooster tail when moving at speed.
The problem with small planing craft is finding an area of "clean water", (ie, very little turbulance, it's bubbles that stop the transducer working as it can't shoot through air) off the back of the transom.

My transducer is above the bottom of the transom. No rooster tail and it still works at 30 kts.

Mine is slightly below the transom, small rooster tail and works as fast as I can go (14knots, maybe)

i had my transducer fitted to the transom, but had to much vibration so the transducer from the 6 hp outboard would only pick up at low speed moved it to the right side Tube as the beam works from right to left ,
