Selling a handheld VHF radio

Post by goldeneye243 » 30 Jan 2022, 15:21

Anyone sold a handheld VHF radio?
I have got a Cobra and can't find out how to wipe the MMSI.

Has anyone sold a radio with the MMSI still programmed in?

I've seen on the ofcom website that I can surrender my license. Is it easy for the buyer to add it - It looks fairly straightforward from the website!

Thanks.

Not sold on a DSC handheld but for our HX890 we would need to request a Reset Code from Standard Horizon in order to erase existing and input a new MMSI number.

Would imagine Cobra will be similar.

I would have thought there would be a way for the new owner to take up the existing Portable Radio MMSI once you have surrendered your licence for it - have you tried ringing or emailing and asking Ofcom? I have always found them helpful once you get through to the right person/department.

Failing which, ask the radio manufacturer - I seem to recall seeing a firmware procedure for my HX870 to enable this without sending the handset back to them.
cheers
