Interesting you should mention this misting up Slate as I bought mine from a UK supplier as it was the only one stating it was waterproof
It was about twice the price at around a tenner but maybe I'll seal it anyway before I mount it within the cowling.
The only time I might cable tie it to the tiller would be whilst testing for WOT and messing about with trim/dophins
:cheers

I'm sure mines waterproof and I think it's the same as Paul's, I too will be doing the double seal if that's the case...

Guys, I've taken a closer look at the unit and the most obvious point of entry of any moisture would be where the sender cable enters the unit as it's not a tight fit
I'm gonna seal this area first before I go smearing sealer over everything ;-)

Possible moisture entry to hour/rpm timer

I'll see how it goes and report back...........if I ever get out on the water what with this feckin weather

:stop Thought so, I do have the same tach as you, and yup... Mine too has the same wire entry point defect. :no
For £11, i'll be bogging it up with sealer too lol. :pump
As you say Paul, Mine will have similar use for a short time, just to make sure things are right with the Stingray Junior and the Solas Stainless Steel Prop

I have one on my 9.8hp as I have two props one when I'm on my own and one when theres two+, I also have one in the toolbox for tuneing up, great piece of kit but they are a copy of the tiny tach which I think is around £30-£40 so for the sake of a bit of sealer well worth the money.

The guys that serviced my outboard last week showed me the Honda official version. Identical but ~£100!

These Chinese ones are rubbish we ordered 20+ of them early season , They all misted up and broke,
We also tried the very expensive one they produce it lasted one trip and then froze
The Quicksilver service monitor is the one to go for but they are not cheap but covered by the Mercury warranty that the chinese ones arent, Yamaha also do one simillar, again covered by a yamaha warranty,
