BBQ On Loch Lomond With The 390 Volaire

Post by Ross-L » 03 Aug 2020, 18:31

My Mum and her friend had been asking for me to take them out in the boat at some point so a date was arranged, Myself, Dad, Mum, her Friend and the 2 dugs (4 adults, 2 collies) up to Inchmurrin for a BBQ.

As usual it's impossible to find anywhere that can actually forecast the weather up here in Scotland but the best day of the week was chosen, used the windy app id heard about on here and it was predicting 9mph winds from the south, nope, 20mph and from the north so a very slow 3 mile trip up the loch to avoid getting everyone wet until we got alongside Inchmurrin where I got to give her the beans and I wasn't expecting much but it actually got on the plane with a very heavy load on board, granted it took 20-30 secs to get there.

Dropped everyone off on the south side of the beach out the wind but the midges were hell so told them to carry everything to the north side were the wind kept the midges away and I zoomed the boat round (a lot of fun with no extra weight in the boat).

Once we got settled in and the sun came out I got the BBQ started, on the menu today was pork belly, regular burgers and some venison burgers.

While the food was cooking I setup my rod to try a bit of spinning for pike and surprisingly got one around 4lb but it wriggled into the water before I got a picture of it, we spent a couple more hours relaxing on the beach before heading back so they could catch the last train home (reduced timetable still) and again the weather/windy app was completely wrong, this time the wind had changed direction to be in our face again so another very slow trip home with the odd big wave splashing in the boat.

Arriving back down the river Leven and at the public slip it is a very easy launch/land slip and id highly recommend using this instead of paying to use the duncan mills slip, which means it only costs you a couple of quid to use loch lomond each year.

A good day was had by all and we parted ways but the night wasn't over for my Dad and I as we still had to fold up the boat (nightmare its massive) which at the end of a long day is exhausting, but then when we got home i had to lift the 20hp mercury up 2 flights of stairs to store it in my Dads cupboard and then take the boat up my house to store in my cupboard, after all this im not up to anything the day after as my body is sore and bruised.
I have a Vauxhall vectra extate which I got because its got one of the biggest boots Ive seen in a car (we go away camping/fishing with it and fold the back seats down and its like the size of a double bed so no need for tents) but even still with the Volaire and Mercury 20hp there is no space left over after putting in all the bits and bobs, hopefully ill move house sometime soon to somewhere I can get a trailer as its just so much work.

few short video clips my Mum took, first going up the river into the loch and the 2nd Wee Ruby loving the boat so much it was rocking her to sleep.
