Evinrude 9.9HP - worth a punt??

Post by Richard2Barwell » 24 Jul 2016, 21:31

So I've been offered a Evinrude 9.9HP at what seems like a decent price - circa £180...

My question the forum, are these outboards any good? I appreciate its going to be probably 35years old. Alternatively am I better off spending a little more and holding out for something else?

Thanks

Hi

I have a Johnson 15HP (1999/2000). It's been rebuild and covered nearly 50 hours and is a fantastic engine.
Pete has a Johnson 15HP (1974). It's been sitting around for years and after some tweaking starts first time.

Dad use to have a 50 / 75HP Johnson engines they were also good.

If the compression is good and it fires over it's worth a punt at that price.

that's just my opinion, I've never owned another brand of outboard.

JonnyRude engines have always been considered the Donkeys of the outboard world, but the fact that there is still plenty around must say something for them :D
