If I'm filling an external tank I put normal 95 octane in it, sometimes supermarket fuel, sometimes branded. If the tank has old fuel in it I mix 50 / 50 old fuel and 97 octane from a Shell garage.

If the fuel is really old (more than 9 months old) it's not used in the boat at all, instead it goes in the lawn mower. The lawn mower seems to run happily on both neat old unleaded and on old 2 stroke premix.
