Okay so fitted the new impellar earlier the oil was actualy in really good nick but i changed it with new nylon washers as belt and braces....bad times tho wifey came along and spun the bloody shift shaft alot...... now gear linkage was well out. Mine is not like donnys in regard to the reverse gear washer he spoke of as when i could not get reverse i instantly checked this....i played about dropping the leg on off and on and off and on about 7 times messaged andyb to so if u get it andy ive sorted it....

This was over a number of hours until ive now got it as near as damb as i can......small clunk into reverse but no grinding etc.....what a palava

Still pumps well after thermostat kicks in and i think the issue was that 2 on the impellar blades had reversed in effect and caused this pump then gap then pump tgen gap etc etc.

Anyways all done new plugs new oil new impellar now time for a

Just seen your message, Glad you got it sorted.

There is a wedge shaped part that screws onto the bottom of the selector rod.
This engages the gears, just make sure that it is properly reattached to the bottom of the selector rod

Got me wondering now andy......all seems fine and goes in and out okay so id guess all is well but i need a shake out to test it really...... i think what didnt help was that i didnt know how many turns she made or in what direction so i just trial and errored it it was so out the first time that there was no reverse gear to be found with the leg off and neutral was in there somewhere......

I think the issue was that 2 on the impellar blades had reversed in effect and caused this pump then gap then pump tgen gap etc etc.

That always happens when you remove the housing with the impeller still inside it.
This happens because the pump housing is offset to the drive shaft. Nothing to worry about.....
(The blades would bend back under rotation.)

When you replace the pump housing it's good practice to rotate the drive shaft in the direction of drive to make sure all the impeller blades are correct.
Bit of grease on the impeller doesn't go a miss

Yes i did spin it in tye housing. I used a bit of washing up liquid. Really helped to seat it over the key to ill just be blowing bubbles from my pee stream....... must see the doc abooooot that
